Fire cider
fire cider
Fire cider is becoming well-known for its potential health benefits…specifically in supporting the immune system and promoting overall wellness. It is basically a spicy, tangy herbal tonic that is made by infusing immune boosting ingredients in vinegar.
Ingredients: The ingredients in fire cider vary depending on who you ask, but here’s what my fire cider includes:
Raw Apple Cider Vinegar: This serves as the base, and has health benefits of its own, including digestive support.
Food ingredients: Onion, garlic, horseradish, & jalapeños. I’m going to lump them all in together so this post doesn’t get too long. They have medicinal properties as well, but also give fire cider that spicy kick!
Herbs & spices: ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, sage, thyme, rosemary, coriander, fennel, & black pepper. Again, each ingredient has amazing medicinal properties…namely antiviral/antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, & immune boosting properties.
Raw Honey: so many benefits! Plus it makes the fire cider taste sweet to balance out the spice.
Why use fire cider?
Immune Support: Fire cider is an amazing immune-boosting remedy. The combination of ingredients helps strengthen the immune system.
Digestive Aid: Apple cider vinegar (the base of fire cider) helps with digestion and promotes a healthy gut.
Cold and Flu Relief: Fire cider is often used to relieve symptoms of colds and flu. The spiciness can really help clear congestion, soothe a sore throat, and provide a warming sensation. I love a shot of fire cider when I’m feeling chilled - it warms you up from the inside out!
General Wellness: Some people (my kids included!) take fire cider regularly to maintain overall well-being.
Dosage: I recommend taking fire cider in small doses. For adults, start with 1 tbsp and work up to 2 tbsp if you think you need a little more.
