Focus!

Mental focus is such an important aspect of daily life! There aren’t “miracle herbs” that can instantly boost your focus, but there are several herbs that help support cognitive function and improve mental focus. If you read my instagram at all, you know I’m kind of an obsessive researcher, and lately I’ve been thinking about all of the different herbs that can support cognitive function in some way.

1. Ginkgo Biloba: Ginkgo is one of the most well-known herbs for cognitive function. It's thought to enhance blood flow to the brain and may help improve memory and concentration.

2. Panax Ginseng: Ginseng is an adaptogen that may help improve mental clarity and reduce fatigue. There are different types of ginseng, with Panax ginseng (Asian or Korean ginseng) being the most studied for cognitive effects.

3. L !on's Man e Mushroom: This mushroom is thought to support cognitive function and may have potential benefits for memory and concentration. It's often consumed as a dietary supplement or in teas. (And I’m currently growing it so I have a good source for this one!)

4. Ashwagandha: An adaptogenic herb, ashwagandha can help reduce stress and improve overall cognitive function, including focus and memory.

5. Peppermint: Peppermint tea (or aromatherapy with peppermint essential oil) can help increase alertness and improve focus.

6. Rosemary: Rosemary has been associated with improved memory and concentration.

7. Gotu Kola: Gotu kola can help promote mental clarity and cognitive function.

8. Sage: Sage may help enhance memory and cognitive function, especially in older adults.

The reality is, it’s really important to choose the RIGHT herbs for your situation, or you likely won’t get the results that you’re hoping for. Obviously this is a good sized list of herbs, and it’s definitely not comprehensive by any means! The best herbal formulas are specific ones that take into account the areas that you are wanting to see improvement in. Someone might want help with focus, someone might need memory support, someone might want to slow cognitive decline, etc. While these herbs might help all of these situations in some way, the better approach is to look at all of the other properties of the herbs and select which one will target your specific situation and symptoms.
