All About Tinctures

What Are Herbal Tinctures?

A herbal tincture is a concentrated liquid extract made by macerating plant materials (such as leaves, roots, or flowers) in alcohol or another solvent like glycerin or vinegar. The process of maceration allows the alcohol to extract the active compounds and medicinal properties of the plant material, which results in a concentrated solution.

How Do Herbal Tinctures Work?

Herbal tinctures work through the extraction and preservation of the beneficial compounds found in plants. When taken orally, the tincture is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, which allows for fast and effective delivery of the active constituents.

Using Herbal Tinctures

Herbal tinctures are a simple and convenient way to incorporate the benefits of herbs into your daily routine.

- Dosage: The appropriate dosage varies depending on the herb and its intended use. I put recommended doses on all of my tincture bottles, but the recommended dose listed is for adults. I can adjust doses for kids though, so just let me know if you want to use a tincture for someone younger.

- Dilution: You can dilute tinctures with water or juice if the taste is too strong. I specifically like to add mushroom tinctures to my coffee in the morning, but I also take tinctures with just a little water in a shot glass for a quick easy dose.

- Blends & Custom Formulas: You can take tinctures individually, or for more convenience, I like to mix different tinctures in a bottle and take them together. It makes it simple to customize a tincture so you can get the most benefit from it.

Herbal tinctures are a natural and versatile way to harness the healing properties of plants. Tinctures are very concentrated, so it’s important to do your research, consult with an herbalist, and exercise caution when using herbal tinctures…especially if you have underlying health conditions, take other medications, or are pregnant or nursing. I’m always available by email if you have questions or concerns!
